WELCOME TO EXTENDED DAY KINDERGARTEN AT

KEMPSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Dear EDK (Extended Day Kindergarten) Parents,

Mrs. Ginn (teaching assistant) and I are delighted to be working with the extended day Kindergarten class this year.  We have been with the EDK program since it began in the Virginia Beach Public School system in 2006.  The program is designed to provide support for your child during his/her Kindergarten year.

Your child has been invited to  join  the extended day Kindergarten class based on a pre-screening assessment conducted earlier in the school year.  The EDK class will begin on or before the last week in September. This allows time for invitations to the class to be extended, permission slips to be signed, and baseline testing of enrolled EDK students to be conducted. The EDK classroom lessons will focus on reinforcing skills presented in the Kindergarten classroom.

Your child's regular Kindergarten teacher will assign grades on the report card, hold conferences regarding those grades, and assign homework.  The role of the EDK class is to provide support to the student during the Kindergarten year. All of the EDK classwork will come home for you to review and check your child's progress.

Mrs. Ginn and I look forward to an exciting year of living and learning in the EDK classroom. We may be reached through the school' s website ,school's  phone number (648-2720), or by a note you have sent with your child.  Please do not hesitate to contact us.  We will make every effort to get back to you that same day.

Mrs. Pirtle  (teacher) and Mrs. Ginn (teaching assistant)  :)
